Last week Vicky and Henry texted telling me they’ll show up next September on the lake with the son Bob, his wife Sarah and grandkids. Vicky and Henry are a senior couple (but they look much younger due they practice sport almost every day and they spend mostly weekend playing golf on the Concord club, in San Francisco Bay Area) while Bob and Sarah are bike fanatics.
Their request was simple: a sport tips for their holidays of two weeks (they decided to stay in two nice flats in Cadenabbia with the stunning view over the Bellagio peninsula).
Vicky (handicap 11) and Henry (handicap 8) are a good players golf so I suggested them to play at Golf Club Menaggio & Cadenabbia, in Menaggio (less than 5 km from their flat). This club was build by a British bankers Henry John Mylius in 1907 as a matter of fact is the second oldest golf club in Italy. But Henry and Vicky could swings also at Circolo Golf Villa d’Este, at Golf Club Monticello, Golf Club Carimate and Golf Club La Pinetina (all these clubs are a few kilometres from Como).
Always in Menaggio, Bob and Sarah could also climbing a rock face, a crag located on the shore of lake at the northern end of the village. This crag is next to the bike path and has a grassed area for kids and picnic tables. By the way between Tremezzo and Menaggio they could find a lot of rental bikes (Bici Sport 2000 in Lenno, Bike It in Bellagio, Canaja de Menaas and Ostello La Primula in Menaggio). One of the most beautiful bike paths is the one that follows the old railway route from Menaggio to Porlezza, immersed in the woods, a very nice outlet into the nature.
I also provided to all family with the addresses of the most beautiful beaches where they can swim and sunbathe: in Menaggio there is the splendid Victoria Beach (with a stunning view of the Northern side of the lake); in Tremezzina the Lido di Ossuccio, nearby Comacina Island, and Lido di Lenno on the beautiful Gulf of Venus. Other beaches of the lake are located in Bellagio (Lido di Bellagio), in Como (Lido Villa Olmo and Lido Villa Geno), Cernobbio (Lido di Cernobbio), in Argegno (Lido di Argegno); on the shore from Como to Bellagio there is another beach: Lido of Faggeto.
I don’t recall if Vicky and Henry practice water sports, but I decided to add few tips for water sky:
in Menaggio WEC (Water Experience Center) where they could rent jet ski, boats (without any driving licence), sup and kayak and they, of course they could waterski, wake surf, wakeboard and kneeboard. The same sports ara available in Lezzeno (a villagenot so far away from Bellagio) at Club Morgan.
About tennis courts, I suggested Henry and Vicky to play at Tennis Club Como, at Villa Olmo’s park; this clay court meets perfectly with their age, it doesn’t damage their legs like concrete or plastic courts, they are not teenagers anymore!
